None of the characters are of any relation to those who fans have grown attached in the first four seasons, unlike the transition during Skins seasons 2 and 3, which helped make the new characters work. There is no connection to the characters immediately.

Matthew "Matty" Levan is a fictional character in the television series Skins, and is played by Sebastian De Souza. He is the only lead character in the show's history to never have a centric episode (either solo or shared). Matty is initially presented as being very mysterious, with no strong ties to any of the students at Roundview. He is later revealed to be the brother of Nick Levan.

Plus most of the characters are unlikeable and they seem to be a very unlikely group of friends (as opposed to gen 1 in particular, who seemed to be a believable group of mates). That whole gen is super cringe and, for me, completely unwatchable. I loved gen 1 and really liked gen 2, but I feel like gen 3 really let the whole thing down.

I think my age has a lot to do with it. I"m nineteen now, seventeen at the time of watching Gen 3 because I put it off because of other people's opinion on it.

So my first reason is simple Gen 3 really got off on the wrong foot. My second reason for Gen 3 failure is simple the characters and sorry was so discombobulated and made no sense. Like in S5 Everyone was mean/edgy for like no reason and it came off comical.
